Magic Numbers
Grades and test scores are key for admissions and scholarships.
A 3.5 GPA (A-) is a tipping point for many schools and awards, compared to a 3.4 (B+).
An ACT score of 30 (equivalent to a 1360 SAT) stands out more than a 29. Every point matters.
Unknown Factors
U.S. college sticker prices are often misleading.
The final price includes tuition, housing, meals, and books.
At liberal arts colleges, a student does not need to choose a major until near the end of the second year.

Comparing Liberal Arts Colleges and Traditional Universities
Liberal Arts colleges emphasize a wide-ranging curriculum where students explore many fields before specializing.

---|---|---|
Academic Focus | Emphasize a broad, well-rounded education | Focus more on specialized studies within a chosen field |
Size | Smaller (under 3,000 students), offering a more intimate environment | Larger (10,000+ students) |

More about me
I have been working with high school students since 1998, first in Texas, then Estonia, Eritrea, Germany, and Luxembourg.
Over the years, I’ve become very familiar with the college application process and the unique advantages of small, liberal arts schools.
As a graduate of a small, liberal arts college, I am a strong advocate for the personalized education these schools offer: tight-knit communities, small class sizes, close access to professors, and a well-rounded curriculum.
My two children also attend liberal arts colleges, where they play soccer. They wouldn’t have had that chance at a large school.
Opportunities like that are part of what make liberal arts colleges so special.
